Day 45 – It’s All Relative

Another South wind.  Another day of mostly crosswind with about fifteen miles of direct headwind.  But today the wind was only blowing at about 15 mph.  A week ago when we first entered Kansas that would have bothered me.  Now I consider it a gentle breeze.  Amazing what one gets accustomed to.  We also continued to see more trees and more hills, which breaks the wind up even more.

We biked 55.7 miles today from Chanute, KS to Pittsburg, KS.  Temps were in the high 80’s, but it was cloudy most of the day so I was comfortable.  Jill and Pat brought us refreshments during the ride once again easing any challenge the wind was putting up.

Couple highlights today:  Brian had to use pepper spray he bought yesterday on a quickly advancing snarling dog.  That is good timing.  And I wiped out on my bike.  Long story.  Bloody knee, bruised ego, and $200 of repair on my bike and all is well.  Just happened to do it about two miles from a bike shop - more good timing.  Every day there’s something.  That’s what makes it such a great journey.

A cloudy day helped keep the temp comfortable.

A lot less wheat fields and a lot more pasture.

One of the roads we traveled today.  A canopy covered road two days in a row.

Jill brings refreshments, and celebrates flag day.
